Keystody had a booth at Noderunners Conference 2026 in Arnhem. A short recap of the day, five questions from the booth with answers, and material to keep.
A day in the Koepelgevangenis
Noderunners Conference 2026 filled a former prison in Arnhem, and Keystody had a booth in it. The people who stopped by were Bitcoiners who take self-custody seriously. Most of the people we talked to had not heard of Keystody or the people behind it, and still understood what this is for and wanted to learn more after the event.
What people asked
Single-sig with a duplicated seed: a problem, and would multisig help? A copy guards against losing a backup, but every copy is a full spending key, so theft exposure multiplies. 2-of-3 separates the two: one lost or stolen key is neither a loss nor a theft.
A compromised key at a service that holds one of your keys meant booking a call first. What about weekends? Here the vault stays spendable. The other two keys sign and move the funds to a new vault built with a fresh key, in the app or in independent wallet software, at any hour. Holding a key for you is a different arrangement with different tradeoffs, not a lesser one.
No keys injected, and a parallel setup with no dependency on your business? None injected. Keystody never generates or holds a signing key. Your descriptor and keys work in open-source wallet software such as Sparrow on your own node, which reduces the dependency on us without removing the risk of a lost or compromised key.
What does the health check mean? Recovery Readiness: a checklist you confirm (descriptor backup, seed backups, geographic distribution, emergency contacts, a recovery test, an inheritance plan), a 0–100 score with an A–F grade, periodic key-access verification with overdue reminders, and recovery-drill guidance. It guides; it never blocks you.
Compared with doing it yourself, what does a platform add? Guided setup, the readiness score and checklist, verification over time, recovery drills, a documented setup a family can follow, and a human to call. All with zero keys held.
A live recovery did not fit into the booth day. We walk people through one on their own setup during the free setup call instead.
